If you’re a CIC and you’ve had the designation for a while, you’ve probably had Jim Harrison, CPCU, CIC, CLU, ChFC as an instructor at some point. I’m sad to advise that Jim has passed away after a long illness. This was Jim’s bio from the Big “I” Virtual University (VU):
James T. Harrison, Jr., CPCU, CIC, CLU, ChFC is an insurance agent in Tallahassee Florida. His agency is Security Bond Associates Inc. of Tallahassee. He also founded the Florida Insurance School – Continuing Education, Inc. and the Florida Insurance Education Service. Jim earned undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Texas at Austin.
He graduated with honors from the Florida State University College of Law in April 1991 and was admitted to the Florida Bar in December 1991. Jim was admitted to the Florida Bar in December 1991. He is also admitted to practice in the Federal Court for the Northern District of Florida and is admitted to practice before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Jim served as an Assistant Professor of Finance and Insurance at Florida State University for five years beginning in 1974. He worked with the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors from the inception of the program in 1969 until 1984 and is a member of the Society’s National Faculty.
Jim has spoken to insurance audiences in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Panama, and England on various insurance topics. For his work with insurance audiences, Jim was honored in 1991 as the first recipient of the PIA Insurance Foundation’s award for excellence in continuing education.
When I started building the Big “I” VU in 1999, Jim was one of the first people I contacted to be a volunteer faculty member. I had never met Jim but, perhaps like many of you, knew of him and he was highly recommended by several VU faculty as a P&C coverage expert. In particular, Jim and John Eubank, along with the still living Jerry Trupin, were among the elite minds when it came to property insurance. (Jerry just recently retired after a career that spanned 75 years if you count him working in his father’s agency starting at the age of 12.)
The old guard are leaving the industry. Malecki. Eubank. Harrison. Trupin. Who is replacing them?

I was truly saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. I was with a few CIC faculty members recently. We were just talking about Jim and his impact on our lives and work. As for me, I learned much just by watching and paying attention to Jim. He was a pro and he understood his craft better than most and communicated it in an accessible way. We are less without him around.
Great items from you, man. I’ve take note your stuff previous to and you’re just too
magnificent. I really like what you’ve bought here, certainly like what you are saying and the
way wherein you assert it. You are making it entertaining and you still
take care of to stay it wise. I can’t wait to read far more from you.
This is really a great site.
