To paraphrase Alice Cooper, welcome to my blog (as opposed to nightmare). At the end of this year (2016), I will retire from 28 years of service at the Insurors of Tennessee and, for the past 17+ years, the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, and 19 years (full and part time) at Insurance Services Office. I’m hopeful that, after over 47 years of service to the P&C insurance industry, I’ve learned something. The purpose of this blog is to share my experiences, expertise, and observations.

The “Commentary” component of this website pretty much explains what I hope to accomplish with this blog and associated articles, white papers, and books:

Com•men•tar•y … an expression of opinions or offering of explanations

In addition to offering explanations of various provisions in insurance policies by line of insurance, I plan to express opinions about what’s going on in the industry. Topics likely will include the myth that personal lines is becoming commoditized, the hype and hyperbole associated with so-called industry “disrupters” that are going to “revolutionize” the insurance industry. I’ll also provide analysis on emerging issues such as driverless cars, “the Internet of things,” data analytics and predictive modeling, and much more.
